Here’s a common trap that I see both business owners and freelancers falling into way too often:👇
They start a new business, whether it’s selling products or selling services, and at first, they are overwhelmed.😱
This goes on for a while, but eventually, the person begins to figure some stuff out…🧐
Their workflows get better, they get better at saying “no,” they prioritize and manage themselves more efficiently…
Which finally leads them to have a nice chunk of free time.
But then…
Instead of enjoying the fruits of their labor…
They go out and find new ventures and new projects to fill the “hole” in their schedules…
And before they know it, they’re overwhelmed again.
Now it’s back to finding new systems, processes, etc…
Yet ultimately, systems and processes alone can’t save you from overwhelm.
Sometimes, the answer isn’t better systems or processes…
It’s to do less.
The entrepreneur/freelancer realizes this in a moment of rock-bottom-clarity…
And they begin to detach themselves from non-essential projects and joint ventures that they shouldn’t have taken on in the first place.
Which is good, they finally get back to a place of having free time…
Except before long…
They go back to trying to fill the “hole” again…
And the cycle repeats itself.
I’m thinking about this a lot because I’m going to have a bit more free time coming up…
And so I’m really trying to guard against this trap.
It’s super hard for me…
But the thing I’m telling myself, and that I’d counsel to you as well…
Is that it’s okay to not have demands on your time 24/7.
Try to sit with some of that free time…
Do the activities that you say you wish you had time for but that you never actually seem to pursue…
Just enjoy life for a while.
If after a month or two, you’re still feeling this itch…
Then consider scratching it slowly…
But don’t rush out and commit to several new projects at a time…
Because saying “yes” to something is easy…
While actually doing it is a lot harder.
