I tend to get annoyed by bumper stickers.š
Not all of themā¦š¤
Rather two types specifically:š
Type 1: āDeclarationsā
Examples include:
13.1 and 26.2 ā referring to half-marathons and full-marathons, and placed so the readers know the driver has presumably run that far
Pro and Anti-Religion stickers and decals
My child is an honor student ā signifying that they value their family and education
Gluten-Free/Vegan/Keto ā those types of things, where the driver wants to let everyone know that they eat a certain wayā¦
Political issues and endorsements of politicians
Abbreviations of cities, i.e., ATX which I guess says, āI like, live in, or have at least been to Austin!āā¦
Etc.
Type 2: āImperativesā
These are the stickers where the driver wants to tell everyone else what to do.
Examples include:
Extolling a certain ideology (Vote Bernie/Donald/Biden)
Some variant of the command āstop following me so closelyā
Go Green
Go Vegan
Coexist
Etc.
Ā
The fact that the first type of bumper sticker tends to be annoying is really a āmeā problem.
I just find it weird that people feel the need to let everyone else on the road know whatās important to them.
On a deep existential level ā it almost highlights the futility of existence to me.
Itās like these people are metaphorically standing on top of a mountain top, shouting āHEY, I EXIST AND THIS IS WHAT I BELIEVEā towards the heavensā¦
While hoping God will come down from the heavens and give em an āatta kidā pat on the back.
I can go easier on myself for being annoyed by the second type of bumper sticker.
I have a strong anti-authority streak and I dislike being told what to do.
I also think that most stuff is relative.
So just because you believe something to be true, that doesnāt necessarily mean youāre right and everyone else should believe the same thing too.
If we could remember that fact more often, I believe the world would be a better place.
ā-
Hereās the funny thing, thoughā¦
I was out walking a couple of miles this morning through my neighborhoodā¦
And I had a realization:
These types of people, who get wildly passionate about their beliefs and valuesā¦
To the point of becoming almost evangelical (i.e., going around telling other people to convert to their beliefs)ā¦
Those are the best kinds of customers you could ever have.
Theyāre the most bought inā¦
The most likely to refer others to your product or service if thereās an affinityā¦
And often your biggest advocates.
So the next time youāre creating an offer or writing copyā¦
Think about who the ābumper sticker peopleā in your market areā¦
And try to speak to them.
If you can do thatā¦
Youāll likely sell a lot more of whatever it is youāre offeringā¦
And youāll probably do it at a much lower cost per acquisition too.
