Getting After It In The Morning

Good morning.šŸ™‚

Iā€™ve been taking Emily Larkā€™s advice to heart.Ā

During our most recent Copy Accelerator Virtual event, Emily talked about how she spends the first 2-3 hours of each morning getting after her biggest needle mover. This means sheā€™s diving into that work before she gets on Facebook, checks her email, etc.

The way Emily explained it, she used to tell herself that she was getting settled into her dayā€¦Getting After It In The Morning

But what she realized is that she was just giving herself an excuse to procrastinate and put stuff off.Ā Getting After It In The Morning

That message resonated with a lot of attendees at the eventā€¦

And it also resonated with me, a lot.Ā šŸ˜³

Getting After It In The MorningWhat's funny is that Iā€™d gotten the same advice from Monique Linder, who used to be my coach, two years agoā€¦

But I never really followed it until this week.

Prior to now…

I would indeed schedule a time for my ā€œdeep workā€ each dayā€¦

But it was usually for pockets of time between 8 am and 11 amā€¦

Which, is overall effectiveā€¦

But it does leave a stretch of about 3 hours between when I wake up (about 5 am) and when I actually dive into work.

One week though, I decided to follow the advice of Emily and Monique.Ā

Why?

I looked at my calendar and saw that I had one of my busiest weeks in a LONG timeā€¦

And I really wanted to finish the sales letter I was working on.

So one morning I got up at 5:30 amā€¦

And worked on the letter right up until 8 am, when I had my first call.

Turns out, I got a TON of the letter done in that window of timeā€¦

And doing that had me feeling so much calmer, happier, and accomplished for the rest of the day.

Then, in the afternoon I knocked out another hour of work, and finished my first draftā€¦

Getting After It In The MorningSo at that point, I felt REALLY goodā€¦

And when I stopped working there was no anxiety and stressā€¦

Instead, I just had a great evening playing outside with my daughter.

Because of how well yesterday went, I figured I should probably do the same thing againā€¦

So thatā€™s what I did.

I woke up at about 5:15 amā€¦

Spent the first hour and forty-five-minutes proofreading and editing the sales letterā€¦

Sent it to my clientā€¦

Went on a 40-minute walk around my neighborhoodā€¦

And got back in front of my computer at 8 am for my first call.

I feel great, and I'm so happy to have the project completedā€¦

And because some things ended up being moved around on my scheduleā€¦

I actually have a really open day in front of me now.

So instead of needing to work on that letterā€¦

Iā€™m going to spend an hour or so providing feedback to Copy Accelerator Members in our FB groupā€¦

Then Iā€™ll be doing some deep work on my own personal projects…

And at 2:30 pm Iā€™m gonna go hit the golf course, which Iā€™m super stoked about…

Before going out to a nice dinner with my wife and her cousin this evening.

So yeah, just wanted to shareā€¦

Because at least for meā€¦

Switching it up and diving right into my biggest needle mover FIRST thing in the morningā€¦

Itā€™s making a big difference and giving me the feeling of having a lot more time in my daysā€¦

So pretty damn excited about that.

P.S. Previously, I went on my friend Tom Gaddisā€™s podcast. We had an awesome conversation and covered a lot of important stuff.

I highly recommend you give it a listen here.Ā
