What I Think About At 2:30 AM In The Morning

I went to bed around 10:30 pm one night…

And I woke up at 2:30 am in the morning. 😳

I think there are multiple reasons why I woke up in the “middle of the night”:

  • I took my Adderall later in the day than normal…
  • I had a few glasses of wine at one of my new neighbors’ houses (wine always messes with my sleep)…🥂
  • And it got hot in the master bedroom of our house (still figuring out the benefits of ocean breezes vs. air conditioning lol).

Anyways, after laying there for a few minutes I got up to use the bathroom…

And I used my phone as a flashlight. 📱

While doing that I couldn’t help but look at the notifications on the screen…

And one of the things I saw was a push notification saying:

“Leaked memo shows American Airlines is about to fire 8,800 flight attendants.”

Now I don’t know if this is 100% accurate or not (I didn’t start reading the article as it was the middle of the night!)…

copywritingBut I will tell you what I thought about:

I thought about how it’s important that those flight attendants discover the world of freelancing as fast as possible…

And I thought about how I need to do everything in my power to get training and teaching on freelancing in front of them.

Why?

Honestly, probably 25-50% of those flight attendants probably won’t make great freelancers…

But that means that between 50-75% of them could succeed…

And it means that understanding how to make a real income as a freelancer in today’s economy could be life-saving knowledge for them.

It could mean the difference between losing their house or getting to keep it…

It could be the difference between putting food on the table for their families or not…

It could be the difference between their children having opportunities today that lead to a better life tomorrow…or being deprived of those chances.

Really, the stakes are that high.

And it’s not just flight attendants…

copywritingCirque du Soleil recently laid off 3,300 people…

And with large swaths of the country starting to shut down again due to Covid-19…

There is going to be a LOT of people looking for ways to make ends meet.

Thinking of all this creates a massive sense of urgency for me…

And it motivates me to really work hard to help as many people as possible.

One of the ways is through the freelancing course I’m doing with Ian Stanley…

Now the reason I’m sharing this with you is pretty straightforward…

Thinking about those soon to be out-of-work flight attendants at 2:30 am in the morning…

Reaffirmed the “why” behind what I’m doing.

It’s not about money (although don’t get me wrong money is GREAT!)…

It’s about helping to change lives…

And it turns out that the latter is a much more compelling reason than the former.

It’s not really surprising…

But it is a reminder that you’re much more likely to succeed in your goals if you’ve got a strong “why” behind what you do…

And I wanted to share with you.

P.S. If you’re not familiar with The Road to a Billion, it’s a “call-in” style radio show where I answer your questions on freelancing, copywriting, entrepreneurship, scaling offers, mindset, and more.

My buddy, Ed Reay, is my co-host and does a killer job on these shows too…

And the content is crazy valuable.

When you ask a question, and I answer it, you’re basically getting a several thousand dollars “mini consulting session” with me for free…

So I really hope you’ll attend and either listen in, or even better, come ask me a question.

It’s on every Thursday, at 10 am PST.

P.P.S. This post originally came from an email I sent to my private list. If you want to see more stuff like this from me, you can apply to join my list using this link. I also send out notifications to sign up for an episode of RTB through my email list.
